Vegan Mac ‘n Cheese with broccoli and crispy panko-garlic crust

Vegan Mac ‘n Cheese with broccoli and crispy panko-garlic crust

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180°C. Bring two cooking pots of salted water to a boil.

Step 2

Cook the pasta until tender in salted water. Keep 50 ml of the cooking liquid aside and drain the pasta.

Step 3

Cook the broccoli florets and cubes for 4 minutes in salted water.

Step 4

Crush half the broccoli in one of the cooking pots used. Add the Pa’lais Cuisine – Pasta Sauce, along with 50ml of pasta cooking liquid.

Step 5

Mix in the pasta and the rest of the broccoli and season well with salt and pepper.

Step 6

In a small bowl, mix the panko with a spoonful of olive oil, crushed garlic, salt and pepper.

Step 7

Pour the pasta into a baking dish and finish with the panko.

Step 8

Bake the macaroni dish in the oven for 15 minutes or until the panko is brown and the pasta is hot. Is the panko not browning? Place the dish slightly higher in the oven or turn on the grill. If so, stay close so the panko doesn’t burn!

Tip 1

Add oregano to the macaroni and paprika powder to the panko crust. Delicious!

Tip 2

Mix the panko crust with some grated vegan cheese.

Tip 3

Also delicious with (half a) cauliflower instead of broccoli!

Pa’lais Cuisine Pasta Sauce


250 gr macaroni or other small pasta shapes

1 broccoli, in small florets and the stem peeled and diced

1 cup of Pa’lais Cuisine – Pasta Sauce

35 gr panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)

1 clove garlic, pressed

Olive oil, pepper and salt
